it's not cheese

this post goes out to all the people out there who are in bed, dying, and sad because there were no updates... (this one's for you : )

today it was raining, so there was no "outside play" at preschool.  sometimes i really like that.  sometimes i really don't like that.  today i thought i would really like it, and it turned out ok, i guess.  so after they ate their snack, but before we played with toys (instead of playing outside) they were supposed to be picking books to "read."  this is the activity they get to do on days like today while they wait for everyone else to be done with snack so we can move all the stools ("little tables"), move the table, and get out some toys.  today we reviewed what they were supposed to do when they were done, and most demonstrated the desired behavior - or at least pretty close!  one of my little pals wanted me to tell him what his book was called.  this week's theme is teeth/dentist/dental health (wow, how perfect for you : ), so the books that were out in that room were along that theme.  his book was something about eating healthy food.  i didn't look at the inside, so i don't know if it was about that kind of food keeping your teeth healthy or not... but the front showed some kids getting lunch on a tray (at school?).  so we were talking about what was on the front.  he was pointing out all the different foods and telling me what they were.  a couple things were hard to make out, but we decided maybe a piece of chicken and corn? garbanzo beans?  one of those... anyway, there was also broccoli, an apple, a glass of milk.... then a roll and a pat of butter for it.  he was asking me what they were.  i said, "well that looks like a roll, and some butter for it."  he told me, "no, that's cheese."  ha... i said, "no, i think that's butter to put on the roll."  and he said, "no, that's cheese."

when he decides something, he's already decided.  it's over.  so it was cheese.

then i remembered that i had once upon a time had my own little butter/cheese mixup...... ........ ....... : )

hahahhaha

when i was about 7 one of my uncles got married.  the wedding was in hawaii, but we didn't get to go... : (  we went to the reception in oregon at grandma's house, though.  mom made two dresses for jenn and linds and mine was storebought (time? i was too good for homemade?).  linds and i were supposed to go around the yard to people with baskets with hershey kisses in them and ask people if they wanted a kiss.  then, of course, give them a candy.  talk about embarrassing!!!!!!  i can't remember how many times i really said it or not.  i think it was supposed to be cute, but i was old enough to just be embarrassed by it....

apparently i wasn't old enough, however, to know the difference between butter and cheese.... : )

grandma's yard was done up all nice for the reception - appropriately done for the 90s, of course.  several tables had food out.  i can't tell you anything else they had for sure except for rolls, meat to put on them, and butter pats.  there probably were some other condiments/toppings....  all i remember is being hungry, and it finally was time for the reception and we could touch things and eat.  i really wanted one of the little pieces of cheese.  well i got at least one and took a bite out of it..... i don't think i was really sure what it was, but i knew it wasn't cheese!  it seems familiar that someone (dad?) explained to me that it was butter.  i wanted to know who wanted a chunk of butter like that instead of a chunk of cheese!

and today i was reminded of that blessed day when i learned that butter pats existed and that they are different from cheese.  i had a good laugh.

and you're lucky it happened on the day my fan club begged for a post... : )  feel better!  don't die!  be happy!  you're almost there! : )

  1. I'll go with you're too good for handmade, bwahahahahha. And my daughter will be banned from any "kissing" activities of that nature. I'm still scarred myself.

I'd have to check with the dentist, but I do think that the cheese and butter both do the same thing to your teeth, so I guess it doesn't really matter if you mix them up :)

I wanted a meat sandwich yesterday so I took myself to Subway and now I have leftovers to eat for today.
